While individual counseling is strongly recommended to produce changes in behavior, behavior change systems in the home can be practical and powerful, especially with younger children. Research shows that positive reinforcement produces more authentic and longer-lasting change than negative consequences. By working together, we can design an in-home behavior change system that works for the child and the family. This may entail visual charts, new procedures for home routines, natural consequences, token economy, etc. Consistency is the key. Eightfold Counseling can help parents implement systems that feel natural while producing lasting results.
